101 Mottos

Post by m i c h a e l »

It's time to begin a collection of the mottos applied to newLISP. Let's start with the original:
? wrote:"Puts the fun back in LISP."
Who was the first to say this?

What follows is a quick gleaning of the club's recent posts for anything even resembling a motto.
Peter wrote:"newLISP, the best programming language on earth."
cormullion wrote:"newLISP: Easier than you thought it was going to be, given that it has "Lisp" in its name!"
m i c h a e l wrote:"newLISP follows the principle of surprisingly easy."
cormullion wrote:"newLISP: Not as surprising as you thought!"
cormullion wrote:"newLISP: Prepare not to be astonished."
Peter wrote:"Just stop thinking and let newLISP do the talking."
cormullion wrote:"newLISP: Easier than it looks, even though it looks easier than you thought it looked!"
Peter wrote:"newLISP resembles the art of meditation."
m i c h a e l wrote:"The power of LISP, the fun of Ruby."
Norman wrote:"newLISP is not even that bad at all."
camperman wrote:"newLISP Just Worked. Out of the box. First time."
m i c h a e l wrote:"newLISP for world peace!"
cormullion wrote:"newLISP: We have three weapons: easiness and surprise!"
We're on our way to "Most mottoed language in history." Hey, that's another motto!

Don't be shy about adding your own magnificent mottos or combing the club's posts for others. We have a long way to go till we reach 101! What happens if we have more than 101? Or we don't get to 101? Don't ask.

A Lisp that doesn't suck
Actually this is a devious allusion to a quote from some guy called Paul Graham, "The good news is, it's not Lisp that sucks, but Common Lisp." http://www.paulgraham.com/popular.html and wouldn't he just hate to be (mis)quoted here! ;-)

and it's also a bit of a steal from BareBones Software, the makers of BBEdit...

Perhaps you meant "(or shouldn't I be counting from 0?)", since "A Lisp that doesn't suck" makes 15? ;-)

This isn't NewLISP specific but how about

"If it doesn't have APP or MAP the language is CR*P!"

My motto is always: Use the right tool to get the job done!

So adapted to newLISP:

newLISP is mostly the right tool to get the job done!

Without counting Jeremy's motto (as he admits, not newLISP-specific) we have a grand total of 22 (unverified) mottos about newLISP! Almost one quarter of the way there already. Need to go think of another one . . .

Heheh is wish you luck, I started once the 99 ways of alternative smily's in this group..ended up with the strangest results finaly ;-)

newLisp, AKA ->
"programming in the quick and effcient way you aways dreamed of but where never able to accomplish with other programmnig languages"

newLisp is like "Italian saus" over a dellicious pasta,
you dont need much to love it!

newlisp is the only language that could (define cornflakes!)

Thank you, Norman, for already starting us down that path, with your last three contributions ;-) Which also brings us to being a full quarter (minus 1) of the way there!

newLISP doesn't mind if you use other languages - it will talk to you anyway

newLISP: the structure and interpretation of real world applications

newLISP: small is beautiful (when it works)

newLISP: because context is everything in interpretation <- I'm very proud of this one :]

newLISP: because there's nothing wrong with your C code

newLISP: write once, run everywhere (this might have been taken I think...)
