Recusion

I'm having some real problems wrapping my head around recursion, kinda embarrassing but hey. I was hoping someone would have some good advice here :).

The other day I found an old copy of Douglas Hofstadter's Metamagical Themas in my garage. In this book the extremely clever Mr H spends ages and pages writing about recursion, Lisp, music, anagrams, words, Rubik's cube, fonts, and nuclear disarmament, and just about anything. It's probably a bit dated now, and you'll either love it or hate it.

It might be useful to see recursion in a non-programming environment...
