Hello Lutz,

I have setup a new layout proposal on the document. I always have an issue with the frames.
Here is my example, perhpas we could use it or extend it? Hope you like it..

Adjusted the layout ..was missing some functions.. please reload page for changes.
(An individual frame reload is needed sometimes when i changed it meanwhile)

PS: ill be adding more sub-sections to divide even more...

I like the concept, It seems very practical.
This is how it looks on my computer.
Perhaps you can pack upper part even denser.

Thanks for checking Kazimir..

I always wanted to have a quick overview with the document, I think its useable but ofcourse it
depends on the reader ;-) I have a 1680x1050 layout screen and its wider and build on that layout..

I adjusted it again to v06... is that better?

Very good proposals! Thanks to newdep and Kazimir!
I like joined variant, with 2 top strings:
1. ( Introduction ) ( Functions ) ( Lambda ) ( Destructive ) ( Contexts ) ( Foop ) ( Xml ) ( Cilk ) ( utf-8 ) ( Error Codes ) ( System Symbols )
2. ! +-*/% Ab Ap As Ba Ca Cl Co Cu De Di Do En Ex Fi Fl Ga Gl In La Li Ma Mu Net New Nt Pa Pr Ra Rea Reg Sea Seq Sl St Sy Ti Tr Ut Wr

I have a 1024x768 display that I like to adjust at 1/2 to 3/4 screen for reading. Lutz's present version works well enough in this configuration, but I'd rather not scroll the index...

What about using two levels of index? I like newdep's all-on-the-screen overview, but don't like giving up the space that it takes. I also don't like the way his example breaks into "List 1, List 2, List 3". Way too busy!

A second level of index would allow a complete visual overview without scrolling, and take up less screen real estate too. Let's make all of the "List, String, etc." words visible at one glance, with no other words distracting. Smaller type, and subtle use of color indicating level and category might be good too.
