Re: SOPA / PIPA What can you do?

Facebook wore out my patience years ago. If they're still in business, it's not because of me. My policy for the past couple of years has been to use Tor and NoScript for all my browsing, clear my cookies every session, and use encryption on all of my data disks. That still leaves the problem of the...

SOPA / PIPA What can you do?

First, you can learn who the good guys/bad guys are: http://projects.propublica.org/sopa/ then do whatever you can to support/bring pressure on them, maybe by concentrating on Rep. Lamar Smith and Sen. Patrick Leahy, and their constituents first: http://projects.propublica.org/sopa/S000583 http://pr...

Re: Off topic: What web hosting do you like/recommend?

Dreamhost's web hosting service declined badly since my posts above. We are now hosted on Webfaction. They've been doing a great job at a good price.

Oh. I think I see now. This is a style to be optionally used in our browsers. I thought you meant for it to be applied to the nLFC Forum server's styles.

Re: JSON transformation

Hi there. I don't think this forum registers in the 'active topics' list ... Fixed the active topics feature. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. The Dragonfly forum seems almost lost, doesn't it? The Dragonfly forum is a sub-board of the "So, what can you actually DO with newLISP?" forum. I've...

Re: newlisp Documentation, NEW layout proposal

I have a 1024x768 display that I like to adjust at 1/2 to 3/4 screen for reading. Lutz's present version works well enough in this configuration, but I'd rather not scroll the index... What about using two levels of index? I like newdep's all-on-the-screen overview, but don't like giving up the spac...

Re: Announcing an Exciting Merger!

Ohhhh! There's all sorts of interesting things we're going to do, but Larry, Bill, and Tim Geithner have me on a pretty short leash. I'll lose my privileges at Hef's place if I say anything.

Announcing an Exciting Merger!

Larry Ellison and I are proud to announce that after several months of negotiations we are merging Oracle with the newLISP Fan Club. Larry and I both are looking forward to our new partnership, and our new opportunities. He will get to screw over another innovative community, and I will be able to s...

Re: Trouble logging in?

We believe that we are under a low-tech attack. Spammers have learned our usernames from registering and/or just reading the posts,and are using up our log-ons brute-force guessing our passwords.

Good time to make sure that your password is a strong one!

You both make a good point. I'll try to fix it.

joejoe, do you say that the test comes up when you log on? It's only supposed to be for new registrations. Let me know if this needs to be changed.

Re: new forum look

Good to hear, Lutz! Over the weekend we started getting a flood of new spammer accounts, about one every 20 minutes. It was clearly time to upgrade the software. But the new software was not totally compatible with what we had been using, hence the new look. If any legitimate new accounts were delet...

Re: Installing Dragonfly to hosted server

No luck quite yet. Standard configuration http://www.myapp.com/index.cgi/dragonfly_routes returns: ERR: problem accessing file : "/home/me/webapps/_/dragonfly-framework/lib/utils.lsp" Note the web root directory is found as a '_'. There is no server error log entry. Changing the global 'DOCUMENT_ROO...

Our newer members might not be aware that this group is not a project of NewLISP, Nuevatec, nor Lutz Mueller. We're darn lucky that he spends time with us at all!

You're right, it's not easy! But I haven't given up. I've run into a problem at (true (if (args) (set farg (eval (first (args)))) (set farg nil))) ) of your code, Cormullion. I get ERR: symbol expected in function set : farg called from user defined function tracer:tracer unless it is commented out....

Re: Installing Dragonfly to hosted server

I replaced (env "DOCUMENT_ROOT") with a fully qualified path: ; docroot (also site root, usually doesn't need modification) ; (constant (global 'DOCUMENT_ROOT) (env "DOCUMENT_ROOT")) (constant (global 'DOCUMENT_ROOT) "/home/myacct/webapps/myapp") The welcome page now shows, but the URLs are now: htt...

Installing Dragonfly to hosted server

I'm having trouble installing the Dragonfly framework to my hosted account. I copied the dragonfly-framework folder, index.cgi, and .htaccess to my site's root folder per the installation instructions. It appears that I do not need to make any changes to the config.lsp file. And I changed the hashba...

Re: Help installing newLISP on a shared server

It took me a while to take all this in, but I think I've got it:

$ ./configure-alt --prefix=/home/myacct --bindir=/home/myacct/bin

then,

$ make

then,

$ cp newlisp /home/myacct/bin

Seems to be working fine. Thanks!

Well, I sort of painted myself into a corner with the naming of the website. What goes with fans and fan clubs? Some guy up in the stands, waving his team's pennant.

Any other ideas, or especially -- artwork! -- post them here to the forum.
